Surgery in myocardial infarction.

Thirty patients have been operated upon for acute and chronic myocardial infarcts. Seven patients had additional postinfarctional VSD. The mean age was 56.7 years. The hospital mortality was 23%, 38% in the acute group, 12% in the chronic. Seventy-one percent of the patients were improved at follow-up, observation time being from 2 months to 7 years, mean 15 months. Five patients with postinfarctional VSD were still alive and showed remarkable improvement. Two patients successfully underwent additional right aorto-coronary vein bypass.
