1. 1. The study shows that in the experimental animal an incision reinforced by Dacron mesh is definitely stronger than one without mesh. 2. 2. Approximately 1 inch of mesh overlapping each side of the incision, anchored in place by two rows of multiple interrupted sutures, supplies the optimum repair. Additional mesh and sutures are unnecessary and undesirable. 3. 3. Practical implications are drawn from the analysis of tissue and mesh rigidity and ultimate tensile strength. 4. 4. Brief reference is made to a new collagen mesh currently under study.
