Maranthes, previously known in the Neotropics only from Panama, has recently been collected in Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Prior to publication of the Chrysobalanaceae of theFlora de Nicaragua, the new combinationMaranthes panamensis (Standl.) Prance & F. White is made and based onCouepia panamensis, previously considered conspecific with the AsiaticM. corymbosa Blume.
