The use of mass spectrometry for the analysis of proteins and peptides is reviewed. Sample preparation and ionization methods are discussed. The use of coupled liquid chromatography is described. The approach is exemplified with a number of applications including quality control of synthetic and recombinant materials. The approaches for addressing post-translational change such as glycosylation are also given.
