Osteopathy was inaugurated by Dr. A. Still in the USA 130 years ago. It is a medical discipline. The German health system, in contrast, does not recognize this term. Nonetheless, osteopathic therapy is performed in Germany every day. This paper concentrates on how osteopathy is seen in the German context and what problems are currently hampering its recognition and thus preventing the health insurance companies from paying for it.
