摘要

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention created the Public Health Information Network to advance information systems in public health organizations. PHIN provides functional requirements, capabilities, performance measures, and operational characteristics for public health information systems. The certification process is important to organizations, but PHIN barely satisfies its goals. Semantic modeling can improve PHIN in several ways, including organizing its information, streamlining the certification process, and facilitating interoperability with relevant federal and industrial frameworks.
