Zaher Dawy
Dr. Zaher Dawy received his B.E. degree in Computer and Communications Engineering with high distinction from the American University of Beirut (AUB) in 1998. He received his M.Sc. and Dr.-Ing. degrees in Electrical Engineering with excellent distinction from Munich University of Technology (TUM) in 2000 and 2004, respectively. Between 1999 and 2000, he worked as a part-time Communications Engineer at Siemens AG research labs in Munich focusing on the development of enhancement techniques for UMTS. At TUM, between 2000 and 2003 he managed a research project with Siemens AG to design advanced multiuser receiver structures for UMTS base stations. Since September 2004, he is an Assistant Professor at the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at the American University of Beirut. Dr. Dawy’s research interests are in the areas of wireless communications with emphasis on cellular systems and the design of hybrid cellular-ad hoc networks, multiple user information theory, multimedia transmission over IP networks, and Communications Engineering for Bioinformatics. His research in the area of Bioinformatics focuses on the application of concepts and algorithms from Communications Engineering to various problems in the field of Human Genetics. Particularly, he is dealing with gene mapping of complex diseases, genomic classification and phylogeny, in addition to modelling and analysis of gene expression mechanisms. Dr. Dawy is the recipient of best graduate award from TUM in 2000, youth and knowledge Siemens scholarship for distinguished students in 1999, and distinguished graduate medal of excellence from Harriri foundation in 1998
