Dr. Wang’s primary clinical interests involve the medical and surgical treatment of refractory epilepsy, MRI-negative epilepsy and pharmacology of anti-seizure medications. Dr. Wang believes that the ultimate goal of epileptologists is to improve patient’s quality of life and restore his or her self-confidence. This can be accomplished by knowledge and theory in epilepsy on one hand and practical wisdom on the other.
Dr. Wang's current research interests focus on cortical malformation-related epilepsies (e.g., focal cortical dysplasia, the most common underlying pathology in children with drug-resistant epilepsies). Using the combination of molecular genetics, electrophysiology and human clinical data, Dr. Wang aims to focus on defining the underlying genetic, molecular, cellular and circuitry mechanisms contributing to seizures as well as developing novel therapeutics to treat patients.
