个人简介
Dr. Yosuke Niwa is a senior researcher at the Meteorological Research Institute (MRI) in
Japan. He got a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from the University of Tokyo in 2010.
During the master and doctoral courses at the Center for Climate System Research, the
University of Tokyo, he studied about atmospheric transport of carbon dioxide (CO2)
and its inverse problem, i.e. estimation of sources and sinks of atmospheric CO2. After
graduation, he has been working in the Oceanography and Geochemistry Research
Department of MRI. By developing an atmospheric transport model and an inversion
model, he has been tackling various problems of the global carbon cycle. He has been
also involved in a unique aircraft observation project named CONTRAIL, which achieves
a worldwide CO2 observational network by using commercial aircraft. A paper he led
was selected for the Journal of Meteorological Society of Japan (JMSJ) Award in 2011
and he also received the Young Scientist Award of the Japan Society of Atmospheric
Chemistry (JpSAC) in 2016.
