Description of Research Expertise
My overall research goal is to identify brain markers of depression and anxiety treatment response across disorders using structural and functional neuroimaging and to improve strategies for brain neuromodulation.
Funded grants include:
1) "Dimensional connectomics of anxious misery"
By acquiring a broad array of behavioral, neurocognitive and imaging measures multiple investigators will be able to test hypotheses about Negative Valence spectrum disorders in a rich database.
2) "Stress and Inflammation in the Pathophysiology of Late-Life Depression"
3) "Elucidating mechanisms of TMS efficacy in neuropsychiatric disorders"
We are using innovative, complementary studies in non-human primates and humans to identify for the first time causal relationships between non-invasive brain stimulation (transcranial magnetic stimulation, or TMS) and changes in neural activity and behavior.
4) "Non-invasive Neuromodulation Mechanism and Dose/Response Metrics"
A comprehensive assay of brain response to TMS will include TMS probe responses as well as resting fMRI recorded before, during, and after application of neuromodulatory TMS.
5) "Novel neural circuit biomarkers of depression response to computer-augmented CBT"
We are using functional and structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to determine novel neural circuit biomarkers of depression treatment response to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) augmented by actigraphy and computerized algorithms.
