Wanqiu Wang joined CPC in May 2004. The focus of his work is diagnoses of the NCEP climate forecast system (CFS), including assessment of the model forecast, documentation of the model performance, and processing of the CFS forecast for CPC consolidation of seasonal outlook. From 1997-2004, Dr. Wang worked at the NCEP environmental modeling center (EMC) on the diagnoses of the previous NCEP coupled atmosphere-ocean models and development of the CFS. In this role, he was responsible for the testing of the atmospheric and oceanic components of the CFS, coupling strategy, configuration of the forecast system, and evaluation of the model performance in simulating and forecasting ENSO and the MJO. He received Department of Commerce (DOC) 2005 Gold Medal for the successful development of the CFS with groundbreaking results. Dr. Wang's principal research interests are prediction, predictability, and simulation of climate variability (including ENSO, MJO, and the North American Monsoon), and understanding of systematic biases in the coupled atmosphere-ocean models
