Walter R. Sessions

Walter D. Sessions (Member, IEEE) received the Ph.D. degree in engineering from Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville,TN, USA, in 2002, with a focus on plasma physics. He began his career at NSWC, Dahlgren, VA, USA, as a Civilian Employee of directed energy. In that position, he was responsible for design and integration of high-power microwave sources, systems, and effects analysis. He also led the development and execution of the Advanced Computational Physics Laboratory for the Directed Energy Warfare Office, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren. He has been an active participant in preliminary and critical design reviews for both government and commercial vacuum electronic devices. He joined the Materials Science Group, NSWCDL, Dahlgren, in 2009, and spent his remaining government years working on metamaterials at microwave frequencies and experimental testing of multibeam vacuum devices. In 2015, he joined the Georgia Tech Research Institute, Atlanta, GA, USA, as a Principal Research Engineer and is currently working on high-power radar transmitters, high-power microwave source development, passive microwave component designs, and reactive near-field electromagnetics. He also provides consulting support to several government funded projects at U.S. Universities for various DoD sponsors.
