His main areas of research interest include the treatment of anemia as well as the effectiveness and safety of interventions for cardiovascular disease in patients with kidney disease. In addition, he has particular interest in medical publishing. He serves as the Associate Editor for Nephrology of JAMA, The Journal of the American Medical Association, was a Co-Editor of the American Journal of Kidney Disease for 10 years, and has been appointed to several other editorial boards of leading nephrology and epidemiology journals. Since 2016, he has served as the Co-Chair of Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO), the leading guideline group in nephrology.
