His fields of interest in patient care and research include minimally invasive treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), colorectal cancer, and surgical complications. Prof. Bemelman is an EBSQ certified colorectal surgeon (Bologna, 2005)and is also the co-founder and former chair of Surgeons of European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization (ECCO), which is focused on inflammatory bowel diseases, and the collaboration of experts within Europe and beyond. He has published nearly 600 articles in renowned journals, coached 45 PhD students, and has an H-index of 68.
