Volker Ziemann received the Diploma degree in physics from Hamburg University, Hamburg, Germany, in 1986, and the Ph.D. degree in accelerator physics from Dortmund University, Dortmund, Germany, in 1990. From 1990 to 1993, he was a Research Associate with the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, Stanford, CA. From 1993 to 1995, he was a Fellow with CERN, Geneva, Switzerland. From 1995 to 2005, he worked at the nuclear physics accelerator CELSIUS, Uppsala, Sweden, and was appointed Docent (Associate Professor) in 2004. Since 2006, he has been with the Department of Nuclear and Particle Physics, Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden, where he became Director of the Center for Accelerator and Instrumentation Development in 2007.
