个人简介
Volker Müller started his career as a Ph.D. student of Gerhard Gottschalk at the University of Göttingen, Germany, where he worked on the physiology and bioenergetics of methanogenic archaea. After he received his Ph.D. in 1987, he moved to the laboratory of Robert Macnab at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, and worked on the assembly of the flagella motor. Back in Göttingen, he extended his work to acetogenic bacteria and the structure and function of membrane proteins. After appointment as Associate Professor for Microbiology at the Ludwig–Maximilians–Universität (LMU) Munich, Germany, he was appointed full Professor at the Goethe University of Frankfurt, Germany, in 2003. His research interests are the physiology and bioenergetics of anaerobes, especially acetogenic bacteria and methanogenic archaea. His group is also active in unravelling the molecular basis of salt adaptation in halotolerant and halophilic bacteria and archaea, and he recently started to uncover the molecular and biochemical basis of adaptation of the emerging pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii to its human host.
