Vijay Pillai (M'99) received the B.S. degree in electronics and communication from the Indian Institute of Technology—Madras, Chennai, India, in 1997, and the M.S. degree in electrical engineering from Clemson University, Clemson, SC, in 1999.
He is currently a Principal Engineer at Intermec Technologies, Everett, WA, where he is developing next generation RFID systems. He worked on one of the earliest globally accepted RFID chips for the ultra-high-frequency and microwave bands. He led the development of chips based on the Global Tag Initiative (Gtag) which was the first globally accepted RFID standard. His interests are low-power circuit design techniques for RFID, RF front-ends for passive tags, and microwave theory. He has almost 20 pending or issued patents and ten publications.
