个人简介
Till Acker is full professor and director of the institute of neuropathology in Giessen. He is board certified in neuropathology. He is deputy speaker of MIRACUM, a consortium of 8 universities clinics funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research that aims at using biomedical techniques for big data analysis from health care to enhance patient-centered collaborative research as well as improve clinical care processes. Additionally, the consortium engages in strengthing biomedical informatics in research, teaching and training by setting up a joint master programme "Biomedical Informatics and Medical Data Science", summer schools as well as staff training programmes in medical data science for clinicians and medical researchers. At present, Till Acker is dean of research of the faculty of medicine in Giessen coordinating research funding and training programs for medical students and clinical/medical scientist. Till Acker serves as a reviewer and advisor for several national and international funding agencies as well various scientific journals including Nature, Nature Cell Biology, JEM, JNCI. Ongoing work focuses on the understanding of how stress-sensing mechanisms shape the aggressive tumor phenotype and regulate therapy resistance. His lab has pioneered work on the microenvironmental role of HIFs and the stress sensors PHDs in setting the hallmarks of cancer including metastasis and invasion, tumor stem cells, angiogenesis and proliferative signalling. Clinically, his group is particularly interested in the translational discovery and application of biomarkers through next generation sequencing techniques for the differential diagnosis and the prediction of therapy responses in brain tumors. He has published 69 peer-reviewed publications. Till Acker received a Max-Eder-Junior Research Group grant from the German Cancer Aid and is lecturer for Neuropathology at the Justus-Liebig University. He has been supervisor to 17 medical theses and 9 Ph.D. students.
