Dr. Piasecki is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science and a member of the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco, the Research Society on Alcoholism and the Behavior Genetics Association. He is associate editor of Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research and serves on the editorial boards of Psychology of Addictive Behaviors and Journal of Psychopathology and Clinical Science.
Dr. Piasecki conducts research focused on motivational processes related to tobacco and alcohol use, including tobacco withdrawal symptoms, craving and subjective effects of substances. Much of his research uses intensive longitudinal methods, such as smartphone-based diary studies, to understand the process of relapse to smoking, and the determinants and consequences of alcohol use. He is also interested in the measurement and study of individual differences such as tobacco dependence, motives for drinking and smoking, and sensitivity to alcohol effects.
