Bio
Tao Luo received the B.S.E.E. degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, the M.Sc. degree from Queen’s University, Canada, and the Ph.D. degree in EECS from the University of Toronto.
He joined Qualcomm in November 2004. Currently, he is leading the systems engineering of mmWave project with Wireless Research and Development Qualcomm Research. He has been actively contributed to system design, analysis, IPR generation, and standardization of HSUPA, LTE, LTE-A/LAA/eLAA, MuLTEfire, Pre-5G, 5G NR, and more recently on 5G advanced and 6G. From 2008 to 2014, he led UE modem prototyping for LTE Rel-8 and LTE-A HetNet, including UE modem algorithm/advanced receiver design, analysis, lab integration, support for OTA systems, IODT with infra vendors, including first LTE IODT demo in MWC2009. From June 2014 to August 2015, he led LAA systems team to commercialize LAA technology with Qualcomm CDMA Technologies. Since August 2015, he has been focusing on mmWave system design, standardization and prototyping, including first mmWave IODT demo with leading infra vendors for 5G NR. Before joining Qualcomm, he was with the Texas Instrument Wireless Design Center from 2001 to 2004 and was a key contributor to the WCDMA baseband and RF chipset development. He was a recipient of the Upendra Patel Achievement Awards for contributions towards Qualcomm’s first-generation LTE technology development and commercialization in 2011 and Qualcomm IP Excellence Award in 2020. He holds more than 2000 U.S. granted patents.
