Tiberiu Constantinescu

Tiberiu Constantinescu was born in Bucharest, Romania, on June 13, 1955. He received the M.S. and B.D. degrees in mathematics from the University of Bucharest in 1980 and 1989, respectively. He passed away on July 29, 2005. From 1980 to 1989, he was a Researcher at Institute for Scientific and Technical Creation (INCREST), Bucharest, after which he joined the Institute of Mathematics of the Romanian Academy, Bucharest. From 1991 to 1993, he was a visiting scholar at the Information Systems Laboratory, Stanford University, Standford, CA. Since June 1993, he was with the Department of Mathematics, University of Texas at Dallas, Richardson. He had over 50 publications and was a coauthor of the research monograph, “Schur's algorithm and several applications” (Pitman Res. Notes Math., vol. 261, 1992) and the author of the book Schur Parameters, Dilation and Factorization Problems (Birkhauser Verlag, 1996). His research interests were in the applications of operator theory and interpolation problems. He was one of the leading figures in the fields of dilation and factorization problems and Schur analysis. He made extensive contributions to the theory of displacement structure and its applications in signal processing. His most recent interests were in the areas of noncommutative orthogonal polynomials and quantum information processing.
