PhD from the University of Murcia. 2 research stages:
-1st Stage: encompasses my stage in the Neuropathologies of the cholinergic system Research Group (as a student intern and predoctoral fellow) and my postdoctoral stage in the Molecular Therapies and Biomarkers of Solid Tumors Research Group at IMIB-HCUVA.
Activities performed:
-Dystrophy: Analysis of the Cholinergic System in Muscular Dystrophy. Use of Lama2dy dystrophic mice models. Analysis of cholinesterases in lymphoid organs: spleen and thymus. Study of activity, molecular shape pattern, glycidic composition, affinity in edrophonium and fasciculin matrices, Western blot assays and gene expression studies.
-Cancer: Creation, maintenance and management of the Tumor Bank for breast, lung, head and neck cancer, colon and breast fistulas. Analysis of serine hydrolases in tissue samples from cancer patients by activity assays, gene expression and labeling with fluorescent probes. Study of the antitumor properties of antifolates (cell survival or resistance assays with breast and melanoma cells in culture).
-Alzheimer's disease: studies of antifolates in the prevention and formation of amyloid plaques by inhibition of AChE and modulation on presenilin.
-Collaboration: with Dr. Miguel García Salom (Dept. Physiology, UMU) in his studies on the importance of heat stress proteins (HSP), nitric oxide and reactive oxygen species in kidney and colon.
-2nd Stage: from January 2015-present I belong to the Sustainable Chemistry Group at the University of Murcia, where I acquire the necessary skills for the design of simple and sustainable strategies for the synthesis of compounds with high added value for industry, using green tools such as enzymes, ionic liquids, supercritical fluids, eutectic mixtures, ultrasound and microwaves.
Activities: Enzymatic synthesis of esters of polyhydroxylated compounds (i.e. glycerol, panthenol, xylitol), the chemoenzymatic synthesis of fragrances and chiral pheromones by dynamic resolution of sec-alcohols (i.e. 1-phenylethanol, sulcatol, etc.), which have a wide range of cosmetic-pharmaceutical applications. Separation/purification of the products. Synthesis of monomers of industrial interest through CO2 valorization ((meth)acrylates of glycerol carbonate).
Training and research merits:
Student Intern for 3 years / Collaboration Scholarship from the Ministry / Predoctoral Scholarship Seneca Foundation (also obtained Scholarship from the Ministry) / Extraordinary End of Degree Award / Outstanding qualification cum laude in the defense of the PhD / Obtained Contract from the Carlos III Institute (National Call) / 2 six-year terms of research / Participation in 15 Research Projects / 1 Stay in the Proteomics Unit of the Cancer Research Center (CIC) of Salamanca.
Dissemination of results:
34 publications (1 D1; 14 Q1; 14 Q2; 2 Q3; 2 Q4 and 1 WOS; 387 citations, index H=12). 1 of them cover of the journal Green Chemistry / 5 book chapters / 42 communications to national congresses (6 oral, 1 awarded poster) and 39 international (11 oral, 2 awarded posters).
Training of new researchers:
Co-direction of 2 PhD.
Direction of 13 TFGs (topics related to this Project) and evaluation of 31 TFGs
1 Training stay at the Department of Industrial Technologies (Faculty of Mechanical Civil Engineering, University of Talca, Chile) funded by a FONDECYT Project (1161093) of CONICYT (Government of Chile)
1 Seminar on Quantitative PCR, aimed at HCUVA Health Care Personnel Specialist Faculty and Research Faculty.
Outreach activities:
Participation in the Cycle of Conferences of the Scientific Culture Unit (UCC) of the UMU: "Chemistry and Sustainability" (21/06/2021) / 3 Outreach Seminars on cancer research, aimed at students of FP Higher Degree.
Organization committee of III Spanish Biocatalysis Conference (III JEB) (25-27/11/2021).
Technological development activities:
Development of a solvent-free procedure for the esterification of polyhydroxylated compounds (National patent).
