His research focuses on intergroup relations, with specific interests in: the psychological determinants of, and barriers to, participation in collective action and resistance; intergroup helping and advantaged group allies in social protest and social change; and prejudice and its reduction with a particular focus on cross-group contact and extended (indirect) contact. In addition, his current research also focuses on the intersections of the previous two lines of research – how positive/friendly cross-group contact can hinder (or empower) collective efforts for social change. Finally, he has a long-standing interest in minority language loss and language discrimination.
