Bio
I am currently interested in the use of population genetics to understand the transmission and progression of disease in human populations. My present research concerns the ecology and evolution of cancer.
In the past I have used spatial genetic patterns and phylogenetics to predict the occurrence of pathogens and endangered species in remote and inaccessible areas. I found new foci of disease transmission and used population genetics to predict the distribution and spread of disease. I worked on the transmission of schistosomiasis in SE Asia, and on the freshwater snail family Pomatiopsidae. I have contributed to environmental impact assessments and epidemiological studies in Laos. I also have extensive experience of field work and sampling in remote areas.
