Dr. Stephanie Lee is a hematologist and blood and marrow transplant physician-scientist who treats patients with leukemia, lymphoma and other blood and bone marrow diseases. Her research aims to improve the lives of bone marrow and blood stem cell transplant recipients. She leads a nationwide research network that focuses on improving the understanding of chronic graft-vs.-host disease, or GVHD, and the best ways to prevent, diagnose and treat it. In this common, long-term and sometimes life-threatening transplant complication, donor immune cells attack the recipient’s body. Dr. Lee is especially interested in the chronic form of GVHD, which causes symptoms ranging from painful dry eye and mouth to skin thickening, lung problems and susceptibility to infections. She also studies many other transplant-related topics, including survivorship and patient-reported outcomes.
