Siddhartha Ganguly

The number of patients getting blood and marrow transplantation (BMT) for hematologic and non-hematologic diseases have increased exponentially over the last decade. I developed an interest in stem cell transplantation as a way to cure clonal disorders at a very early stage in my training. After a year of fellowship training in BMT from the Cell and Gene Therapy Program at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, I joined as a faculty at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 2003. In addition to the clinical and educational responsibilities, I have been intimately involved with our mission of research and development of new frontiers in cancer treatment. We as a division believe in providing our patients the best possible treatment possible for their diseases and enroll in clinical trials whenever available. I personally have developed several investigator-initiated trials and take part in co-operative group sponsored projects. We have several BMT CTN and SWOG sponsored trials open at our institution. I personally have more than 15 years of experience in conducting clinical trials in a capacity as PI (both intramural and extramural funded projects, investigator initiated and pharma sponsored.) I am the director of lymphoma/myeloma program at KU cancer Center and held an RO1 until 2011. I am currently collaborating with Dr. Rao Manepalli on a study that aims to evaluate the prognostic significance of HSF1 expression and its therapeutic targeting in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. I am also working with Dr. Balusu on the role of NPM1 inhibition and ALCL cell lines. We are also working with Dr. Steven Soper of main KU campus in Lawrence, KS to determine MRD status in patients with Multiple Myeloma using microfluidic assay. I am a member of the CIBMTR, Intergroup Myeloma Working Committee and worked closely with ASBMT to develop practice guidelines for transplantation in Myeloma published in BBMT in July 2015. I also hold a KU Cancer Center Funded IIT grant looking at in vivo purging for stem cell products in patients with myeloma undergoing apheresis. Recently I took part in an NCI sponsored Think Tank program to discuss Disparities in Myeloma care in USA. I am giving an educational session on Myeloma care for Rural America during the ASCO meeting in Chicago, May 2019. We are an Immune Effector Cell Certified center (Similar to FACT) for Cellular Therapeutics and treat DLBCL, ALL, and GVHD using engineered cell therapeutics like CAR T and mesenchymal stem cells.
