The main research interest of my group is the physics of semiconductor nanostructures by spectroscopic methods at low temperatures. Our main research target has been focused to III-V compound semiconductors. Especially we are interested in phenomena due to the electron-electron and electron-hole interactions, such as Fermi edge singularities, enhancement of g-factors or mass, and fractional quantum Hall effects. We have successfully developed a near-field scanning microscope system that can be operated at high magnetic field in a dilution refrigerator. We have successfully observed fine structures due to quantum Hall edge states near sample edges that shift inward with increase in magnetic field. We believe that our success in direct mapping of the quantum Hall edge states is a major step forward in nano-transport and nano-optics research and will contribute to image such as a fractional quantum-Hall phase and a quantum anomalous Hall phase.Shintaro NOMURA RESEARCH image
In this project "Topological Quantum Phenomena in Condensed Matter with Broken Symmetries", we pursue novel phenomena originating from quantum Hall chiral edge states and reveal their topological aspects. Our project targets to imaging of spin resolved chiral edge states and spin injection to the edge states by making use of spectroscopic techniques including selective optical excitation by resonances, spin and orbital selection rules.
