Bio
Dr. Crouter’s main research interests are in the area of measuring physical activity and energy expenditure in adults and youth using wearable physical activity monitors that have various sensors such as accelerometers and gyroscopes. Much of his work has been focused on improving how wearable devices are used to estimate energy expenditure and activity type in free-living youth and adults using machine learning algorithms. Currently, Dr. Crouter is working on the use of machine learning algorithms for classification of activity type and prediction of energy expenditure using accelerometer and gyroscope sensors worn at different body locations.
