RESEARCH: I try to understand the mechanisms of complex phenomena such as protein or peptide self-assembly and protein-ligand interactions, and how these molecular phenomena are governed by generic physico-chemical principles. My main research directions are: 1) Mechanisms of amyloid formation and the role of intrinsic and extrinsic factors, including inhibitors, 2) Calcium-signalling proteins, 3) Biological risks of nanoparticles, and 4) Protein folding and stability including methods development for protein stabilization.
TEACHING: I teach physical chemistry and biochemistry. My main role as a teacher is to guide the students to the fascinating word of proteins and how they cooperate with other molecules to conduct amazing functions. I hope to be able to show that there are a limited set of governing principles that can explain most phenomena, and that by understanding these principles we have a tool towards understanding also the complex biochemical world.
CHILDRENS BOOKS: Together with Kyrre Thalberg I write and illustrate childrens books, and write songs (lyrics and text) for the books . Our main characters are the dragon Kjetil and his friends (four books released: Kjetil lär sig flyga, 2011, Draksommar 2012, Kjetil och Jostein 2013, Höst i Drakbergen 2014) and Prins Pralin (first book released 2013 - Prins Pralin åker buss).
