Sandhya Prabhakaran received the initial education in Dubai, U.A.E, the BTech degree in computer engineering from the Cochin University of Science and Technology, India, and the MSc degree in artificial intelligence from the University of Edinburgh in 2008. She is currently working toward the PhD degree in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Basel, Switzerland. She was a mainframe assembler programmer at IBM Software Labs, Bangalore.
