His research activity concerns the radiation-matter interaction at high intensity in the few-optical-cycle regime, the optical compression of high energy laser pulses, the generation of coherent (by high order harmonic generation) and incoherent (by laser-plasma sources) XUV and X-ray radiation; the ultrafast spectroscopy of organic and inorganic materials.
His research interests comprised the ultrafast spectroscopy of low-dimensional systems, the realization of ultrafast laser sources, the optical compression of high-energy laser pulses, the investigation of nonlinear optical phenomena and the generation, and exploitation of hard X-rays by laser-matter interaction. His current activity concerns the generation of high-order harmonics driven by IR and mid-IR pulses and its application to atomic and molecular spectroscopy.
