Bio
Specialising in designing for children since 2004. In 2008 Sarah was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to study the design of Early Childhood Centres in Europe, Japan and America. In 2010 she wrote a book "Architecture for Children" published by ACER. Sarah also participated in establishing the 2010 guidelines for new child and family centres (CFC) in Tasmania and designed the Chigwell CFC in Hobart, in association with Morrison Breytenbach Architects, which won the 2013 Australasian Award for New Construction: Major Facility. Sarah acted as a consultant to the NSW Government Architects on their Indigenous Children’s Community centres and has designed more than 50 new childcare centres since then, including a federally funded community and children’s centre in Norfolk Island, a 122 child centre in Ballarat that is designed to be a play structure, modifying an existing warehouse into a state of the art centre in Fivedock for the ToBeMe childcare group and designing a Montesorri centre as a treehouse in Cabramatta, NSW.
Sarah is a partner at Scott and Ryland Architects who specialise in heritage and residential work and designing children’s services. Sarah is passionate about the benefits of biophilic design.
