Biography
Rosie is a Research Fellow in the Social Research Institute's Centre for Longitudinal Studies investigating the association between social isolation, loneliness, and wellbeing across the life course and between five successive British birth cohort studies (National Survey of Health and Development (NSHD, 1946), National Child Development Study (NCDS, 1958), British Cohort Study (BCS, 1970), Next Steps (NS, 1989), and the Millennium Cohort Study (MCS, 2000-02)). The project is funded by the ESRC as part of their Secondary Data Analysis Initiative, and is the first large-scale study of social isolation, loneliness and wellbeing in the UK.
Combining her interests in mental health and education, Rosie completed her PhD at the Institute of Education, University of Manchester, and worked on the Department for Education funded, Education for Wellbeing Programme. Her PhD made a critical contribution to theory, method and practice relating to school-based mental health literacy interventions and their evaluation. Rosie continues to collaborate with colleagues from UCL, the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, and the University of Manchester on mixed methods research relating to the implementation and evaluation of school-based mental health and wellbeing interventions.
She was recently an expert advisor on a Department for Education funded rapid evidence review exploring the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and school closure on young people's mental health. Rosie is working on a number of other articles investigating the impact of the pandemic on mental health and wellbeing using natural experiments and longitudinal techniques.
