Bio
My research focuses on understanding the processes by which the environment can modulate the epigenome to alter phenotype potentially leading to disease. We are particularly interested in the early life period primarily in utero and we use both experimental models and human samples. The phenotypes we study are wide ranging including both metabolic and behavioral outcomes but we are particularly focused on complications of pregnancy that arise as a result on aberrant placental signaling driven by epigenetic changes in the placenta. We are currently investigating the placental programming of both maternal care and offspring behaviour. Our work is funded by the BBSRC, MRC, Wellcome and NISCHR. I teach in UG Year 2, Year 3, and MRes students and also train PhD students. My group also undertakes engagement activities – primarily with Cardiff School of Healthcare Sciences and local hospitals, with public engagement at various science days.
