Rick A. Rand

R. A. Rand received the B.E.E. degree from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, New York City, and his M.S.E.E. degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. He is a Senior Engineer at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY, presently in the System Power Packaging and Cooling group. He has worked in the fields of high-speed pulse instrumentation and medical electronics. While at IBM, he has worked on supercomputer power and cooling systems, VLSI design for high-end servers, high-resolution flat panel display (LCD) technology, optical communications and optical inspection. He was a major contributor to the successful IBM SP scalable processor systems, and is currently working on the Blue Gene supercomputer project. He has published seven technical articles and holds six U.S. patents.
