Prof. Raymond Koopmans (Nursing Home Medicine) studies the course of dementia in nursing home patients. He tries to answer questions such as: How does dementia develop? What is the patient's life expectancy? Does the patient develop problematic behaviour? Does comorbidity occur (interaction with other diseases)?

Koopmans is also interested in medication use and polypharmacy, and interventions for improving the quality of the medication prescription policy regarding elderly people. The last phase of dementia is also studied, with an emphasis on palliative care.
