My research focusses on the ecology of small lentic and lotic aquatic ecosystems, amongst others, drainage ditches, streams, ponds, fens and alder swamps,with special emphasis on the environmental factors structuring its macroinvertebrate communities (all taxonomic groups) and semi-terrestrial fauna (Carabidae) and the mechanisms generating biodiversity in these systems. Relationships between species and their environment are investigated using life history traits.
