Radim Kočvara comes from a medical family, his father was a urologist, his mother an X-ray scientist. He graduated in 1969 at the Secondary General Education School in Prague 2 on náměstí Míru. He then graduated from the Faculty of General Medicine, Charles University in Prague, where he graduated in 1975. After graduating, he joined the then newly opened building of the Urological Clinic in Prague in Charles, today the Urological Clinic of the First Medical Faculty of Charles University and the General Hospital, where he works without a break until today. Since the early 1980s, he has been involved in metabolic disorders of urolithiasis (kidney stones), which have been the focus of his candidate's work. In 1980 and 1983 he graduated in urology I. and II. degree and in 1987 in the field of pediatric urology. He defended his dissertation on Metaphylaxis of Urolithiasis in Adults and Children in 1989. Over time, he focused on pediatric urology and in 1995 he became the head of the Children's Department of the Urological Clinic of the General University Hospital in Prague. In 1996 he was habilitated at the 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University as an associate professor for the field of urology. Between 1996 and 2008, he held the position of member of the committee and secretary of the Czech Urological Society. In 2006 he was awarded the international title of Fellow of the European Academy of Pediatric Urology (FEAPU). Three years later, in 2009, he also became the deputy head of the Urological Clinic of the General Hospital for Pedagogy. In 2015, he served as president of the International Congress of Urologists, which took place from October 14 to 17 in Prague. [3] He is a long-term lecturer at the European School of Urology (ESU) and the European Society of Urology (EAU). From a scientific research point of view, he is one of the most active Czech urologists. As the main researcher, he completed eight research tasks, six of which were evaluated in category "A" and twice he was awarded the Prize of the Minister of Health. The main areas of his professional interest and the subject of the most important publications and awards are urolithiasis, reconstruction of structures and congenital urinary tract defects, varicocele and laparoscopic surgery in pediatric urology. Associate Professor Radim Kočvara is the author or co-author of more than 120 professional papers in domestic and foreign magazines, textbooks, monographs, video tutorials and other materials, for many of which he has received prestigious awards. His most important works concern the reconstruction of hypospadias and strictures of the urethra, varicocele and urolithiasis. He completed internships abroad in Moscow (1985), Innsbruck (1993), Philadelphia (1994) and twice in Seattle (1994 and 2000). He is married and has two daughters. His interests include basketball, skiing, alpine hiking and history. [5] He also appears on television, discussing topics related to pediatric urology and kidney function. [6]
