Danny Harris is the NASA Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate Systems Engineering and Integration Lead for Habitation and manager for Next Space Technologies for Exploration Partnerships (NextSTEP) Habitation Systems, a program which uses public-private partnerships to enable commercial development of deep space exploration habitats. Prior to this position, Mr. Harris served as the NASA Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD) Deputy Chief Engineer where he assisted in advising agency senior leadership on technology investment planning, content selection, and project performance for a $680M per year portfolio of space technology programs and projects. Mr. Harris also served as the STMD Technology Demonstration Mission (TDM) program Deputy Manager for Projects where he was responsible for overseeing the implementation of the TDM portfolio of flight and ground technology demonstration projects.
In addition, over his 30 years in the space business, Mr. Harris has served in a variety of engineering/systems engineering and project/program management leadership positions including work on the Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE) and Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) missions; the Ares I crew launch vehicle; Advanced Exploration Life Support Systems; International Space Station (ISS) Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS); and ISS flight element development. From October 2013 through October 2014, Mr. Harris was on assignment to NASA Headquarters as the Science Mission Directorate Deputy Chief Engineer.
Prior to joining NASA, Mr. Harris worked for McDonnell Douglas and The Boeing Company, following the merger of the two companies, as a Thermal Control and ECLSS engineer on the Spacelab and International Space Station programs.
