Dr. Rebecca Hasson is an associate professor of Movement Science and director of the Childhood Disparities Research Laboratory (CDRL) at the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology. She holds a dual appointment as associate professor of Nutritional Sciences in the School of Public Health. Prior to her time at U-M, Dr. Hasson was W.K. Kellogg Health Scholars Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center on Social Disparities in Health at the University of California-San Francisco. She completed her PhD in Kinesiology at the University of Massachusetts.
Her work appears in several articles in peer-reviewed journals, including Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, American Journal of Health Behavior, and Pediatric Obesity. Dr. Hasson has served as an ad hoc reviewer for nearly 30 academic journals, including American Journal of Medicine, Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism, and Journal of Adolescent Health.
As primary or co-investigator, Dr. Hasson's research has received more than $1 million in grant funding from organizations such as the National Institutes of Health and the American Diabetes Association. She is a member of several professional organizations, such as American College of Sports Medicine (Fellow), American Diabetes Association, American Psychosomatic Society, and the Society for the Analysis of African-American Public Health Issues (Past President). She is also on the executive committee for the Council on Black Health.
Dr. Hasson teaches Movement Science courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. Because of her passion for teaching and mentoring, she has received the School of Kinesiology's Excellence in Teaching Award and U-M's Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) Outstanding Research Mentor Award, both voted on by students.
