Ramon Del Castillo

Ramón del Castillo (Madrid, Spain, 1964) studied Fine Arts in the 70's and Philosophy at Universidad Complutense (Madrid). Since 1995 he is Professor at UNED (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia) where he has been teaching Contemporary Philosophy and Cultural Studies for the Schools of Art History, Anthropology, English Studies and Philosophy. He has been invited lecturer in Duke University, New School for Social Research, University College London, as well as in diverse Universities from Japan, Italy, Germany, Australia, Argentina and México. Since the 90's he published works on the history of American culture and philosophy, especially on the antinomies of the liberal imagination, the relation between religion and politics, power and culture. He also translated into Spanish works by Fredric Jameson’s and Terry Eagleton. In 2005 he organized Memories of the Future, a workshop on Science Fiction and politics. He has explored the relation between comedy and tragedy, laugh and absurdity, slapsticks and cartoons. His fortcoming book is dedicated to Wittgenstein and his Relation to Jokes. He have recently published EL JARDIN DE LOS DELIRIOS. LAS ILUSIONES DEL NATURALISMO (2019), and DÍA DE PASEO. PENSADORES DEL AIRE LIBRE (2020) He also collaborated with Spanish National Public Radio (Classic Music Channel) with 17 programmes on the American composer Elliot Carter. He regularly writes on music for magazines and books edited by musical centres, festivals and orchestras (as “La idea de diaólogo" Glenn Gould and autism). He gave courses for musicians in Barenboim-Said Foundation, and he gives talks on the relations between mind, sound and world for students of electroacoustic music in Madrid.
