R. L. Balthazor

Richard Balthazor has been a physicist studying the space environment since 1995. Over his career, he has led the design and operation of space flight instruments including plasma electrostatic analyzers, optical and event-based sensors, and radiation detectors operating in LEO and GEO. He was the electronics lead for the IMESA instrument that operated for 4.5 years beyond its nominal lifetime on STPSat-3, and the instrument lead on eight sensors operating on the ISS. He received a BSc. in Physics with Astrophysics from the University of Birmingham, U.K. in 1990 and a PhD in Astrophysics in 1994.
