Welcome to my webpage. As of October 2007, I have graduated from Northwestern. I am the knowledge scientist at Metaweb, helping build Freebase. What follows is old stuff. Stay tuned.

I am a Ph.D. student in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at Northwestern University. Before this I did my undergraduate studies at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. I work with Ken Forbus in the Qualitative Reasoning Group and Dedre Genter in Psychology.

I am interested in the computational and cognitive underpinnings of human commonsense reasoning. A remarkable property of commonsense reasoning is robustness, and an unfortunate property of most software is brittleness. I believe that insights from commonsense reasoning will lead to the next generation of software that is robust, flexible and intuitive. Towards this end, in my thesis work, I have built systems that generate ballpark estimates in scientific and commonsense domains using strategies similar to humans. Read more about it in the research section.

I am looking for academic and research positions in the intersection of Computation and Cognition. My job application packet is available online.
