Chandrasekar, M.D., known as "Dr. Chandra" to his colleagues and students, has been an invaluable member of the Wayne State University School of Medicine faculty since 1983. He is known among his peers as the "Father of Infectious Diseases in India" because of his instrumental work establishing and facilitating the Clinical Infectious Diseases Society of India. Throughout his exemplary career, Dr. Chandrasekar continues to serve the students, residents and fellows under his tutelage. He was awarded the Wayne State University College Teaching Award in 2017 and the Michigan Infectious Disease Society's Clinician Teaching Award in 2015. Since 2010, he has been named a "Top Doc" by Hour Detroit Magazine and has been recognized as one of the "Best Doctors in America" since 2000.
