The primary focus of my work has been in the field of oxidative stress and redox signaling as a result of free radical inflammatory mediators such as superoxide, hydrogen peroxide, peroxynitrite, and nitric oxide. A primary focus on the oxidation and nitration of lipids, specifically linoleic acid and oleic acid. These nitrated products, nitrolinoleic acid and nitrooleic acid, were studied for their nitric oxide releasing ability and anti-inflammatory signaling qualities.

More recently, I am using the RNA-guided Cas9 nuclease from the microbial clustered regularly inter-spaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) system to edit chronic kidney disease relevant genes to establish cell lines required for high-throughput screening of new therapeutics. I am developing new cell based assays for use in these therapeutic screens.
