Phillip B. Chilson

Phillip B. Chilson received the B.S. degree from Clemson University, Clemson, SC, in 1985, the M.S. degree from the University of Florida, Gainesville, in 1989, and the Ph.D. degree from Clemson University in 1993, all in physics. He has been affiliated with the School of Meteorology, University of Oklahoma, Norman, since 2005 and is currently a Professor in meteorology. Following his graduation in 1993, he worked as Postdoctoral Scientist with the Max-Planck-Institut für Aeronomie, Lindau, Germany, until 1997, where he used radar to study the atmosphere. He then took a position in the Atmospheric Research Programme within the Swedish Institute of Space Physics, Kiruna, Sweden, from 1997 to 2000, where he continued using radar for atmospheric research. Before joining the faculty at the University of Oklahoma, he was a Research Scientist with the Collaborative Institute for Research in Environmental Science, University of Colorado, Boulder, from 2000 to 2005. His research interests include studies of the lower and middle atmosphere using weather radar, wind profilers, and in-situ instrumentation. Dr. Chilson is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Society, and the American Physical Society.
