I am a hematologist with a primary interest in hemostasis research. In addition to basic research involving the coagulation system, I have been engaged in translational research related to novel therapies for hemophilia A. I am the inventor of a recombinant factor VIII molecule, OBI-1, that is being evaluated in two phase 3 clinical trials by Inspiration Biopharmaceuticals. I am a co-founder of Octagen Corporation, which, along with Ipsen Pharmaceuticals, performed preclinical and early clinical development of OBI-1. I served as a member of the Octagen – Ipsen Joint Steering Committee responsible for pre-clinical and clinical development of OBI-1. Additionally, I am a co-founder of Expression Therapeutics, which is dedicated to finding improved treatments for hemophilia A. I currently am the Director of Hemostasis Research in the Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Services at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta/Emory University.
