His interests are in mitochondrial function, mtDNA, iron overload, organ injury and inflammation in severe anemias such as Thalassemia and Sickle Cell disease. This includes innate immune cell expression of pattern recognition receptors and control of apoptosis pathways and how this relates to infection risk in thalassemia and Sickle Cell Disease.
