Matthew James Pankhurst

Matt is a researcher at ITER and INVOLCAN, Tenerife, Spain. He develops new petrologic techniques to monitor volcanoes. These include micro-CT (3D X-ray images) and other X-ray and electron beam techniques. He is an isotope geochemist, petrologist, volcanologist and geologist. Current projects include retrieving physical histories of magma plumbing system from patterns in crystal chemical disequilibria, understanding the role of alkali feldspars in the atmosphere, generating full 3D chemical maps of igneous rocks, and determining the provenance of wine and water.
