个人简介
Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics are Fajfar's main research fields. Initially, he was interested in linear analysis. He developed a method for static, dynamic and stability analysis of multistorey buildings. For three decades, his computer realization of this method (EAVEK software) was an indispensable design tool in Slovenia and the former Yugoslavia, which significantly contributed to the seismic resistance of buildings. Later, he extended his research to nonlinear seismic analysis of buildings and bridges under seismic loading, inelastic response spectra, the determination of seismic loads, the methodologies for earthquake resistant design, and their use in the regulations and standards. With collaborators, he developed a practice-oriented method for nonlinear seismic analysis of structures, called the N2 method, which is included in Eurocode 8. This method represents an important milestone in seismic analysis. Because of its transparency and computational efficiency, it has become one of the essential tools in the research and practice of earthquake-resistant design and assessment worldwide.
Fajfar was the principal investigator in several bilateral research projects with the most prestigious universities worldwide (including Stanford University, University of California at Berkeley, and University of Tokyo) and Slovenian coordinator in six EU-funded projects. In collaboration with Stanford University, he organized and led three international workshops (1992, 1997, and 2004) where the most prominent researchers and practitioners set the directions for improvements in seismic design. The workshops and their proceedings published by leading publishers have had a noticeable impact on the development of earthquake engineering.
